    / user per year

Description of BS 2838-1:1988 1988

This Part of BS 2838 specifies requirements for materials and for the basic design and performance of examination and general treatment couches of fixed height and of metal and/or wood construction. It is applicable to couches with an adjustable head section that are suitable for use in hospitals, clinics, consulting rooms, sick bays and for massage and similar physiotherapy treatment but are not necessarily suitable for use with high frequency electrical equipment (see note 1).

Recommendations for information to be supplied by the purchaser to the manufacturer or supplier are given in Appendix A. Relevant methods of test are given in Appendix B to Appendix J.

NOTE 1 If it is known that a couch is likely to be used whilst carrying out treatment with high frequency electrical equipment, the purchaser should advise the supplier of the need for couches that have been designed to allow this use (see Appendix A).

NOTE 2 The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on page 12.

Requirements for couches, with an adjustable head section, for general use. An optional mounting step is also specified.
