Description of ASTM-B524 1999

ASTM B524/B524M-99

Historical Standard: Standard Specification for Concentric-Lay-Stranded Aluminum Conductors, Aluminum-Alloy Reinforced (ACAR, 1350/6201)

ASTM B524/B524M

Scope

1.1 This specification covers concentric-lay-stranded conductors made from round aluminum 1350-H19 (extra hard) wires and round aluminum-alloy 6201-T81 (hard: solution heat treated, cold worked, and then artificially aged) core wires for use as overhead electrical conductors (Explanatory Note 1).

1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard with the exception of density. SI units shown are approximate.

Note 1-Prior to 1975, aluminum 1350 was designated as EC aluminum. Note 2-The aluminum, alloy, and temper designations conform to ANSI H35.1. Aluminum 1350 and Alloy 6201 correspond to unified numbering system A91350 and A96201, respectively, in accordance with Practice E527. Note 3-A complete metric companion to Specification B524 has been developed-Specification B524M; however metric equivalents are included in this inch-pound specification for information only.

Keywords

Aluminum alloys-electrical conductors; Aluminum electrical conductors-stranded; UNS A91350-wire (electrical); UNS A96201 (Wr. alum. alloy, heat treatable); concentric-lay-stranded aluminum-alloy reinforced (ACAR, 1350/6201); aluminum conductors, spec., (for metric see B 524M)
